DO I NEED AN OFFICIAL USGA GHIN HANDICAP TO BECOME A MEMBER?

No, any golfer can sign up and play in the NAGT. The NAGT does prefer a player to have an active GHIN, their lowest handicap in a 12 month stretch, in order to properly place the player in the appropriate division. If a player does not have an active GHIN, the tournament director for the NAGT will work with the player to find the appropriate division based on average score and the yardage commonly played, noting that strict measures will be in order to protect the integrity of the division and tour. Players without a current GHIN may not be eligible for prizes during their first tournament if the player shoots a score lower than their division. After a player has five (5) NAGT events, they will receive an official NAGT Tournament Index and be placed in the appropriate division accordingly.  Until a player reaches these 5 tournaments they will be considered unvalidated and could be subject to disqualification for shooting a score outside of the division limits. The tour director has overall discretion on player movement.

The Tournament Index is backed by BlueGolf and is used for several Amateur Tours across the nation.
